β¦ Synopsis
Using samples taken from the River Niger before and after impoundment and from the River Swashi, changes in numbers and species composition are analysed . Lake Kainji showed much greater development of zooplankton than in the rivers . The cladoceran Moina micrura and the rotifers Brachionusfalcatus and B. caudatus were relatively more abundant in the rivers than in the lake, whilst the reverse was true of Bosmina spp . and Tropodiaptomus banforanus.

The floristic'composition of the macrophyte vegetation of Lake Kainji was investigated and compared with the vegetation of the river Niger before impoundment. Of 18 hydatophytes, 40 tenagophytes and 57 trichophytes listed for the Niger, 18 tenagophytes, 12 trichophytes and 7 hydatophytes were found
## Zooplankton and phytoplankton samples were simultaneously collected at approximately biweekly intervals over most of an annual cycle in the Westport River Estuary, Massachusetts. Phytoplankton numbers were overwhelmingly dominated throughout the study by athecate nanoplankton c 5 pm in diameter
## Abstract Zooplankton in two riverβlake systems of the ParanΓ‘ River (Argentina) floodplain were studied during ordinary hydrological situations as well as during an extreme flood (El NiΓ±o event) over a period of more than 20 years. The studied lakes were selected because of their position at oppo
Aspects of the reproductive biology of the two species of clupeids known to occur in Lake Kainji, Pellonula afzeliusi Johnels and Sierrathrissa leonensis Thys Van Den Audenaerde were studied for a period of twenty eight months . Mature individuals were found in both species all the year round but wi
