✦ Synopsis
Comparison
of a lime-dependent wwcpackc~ approach with clnssical trajcchmy and exnc~ coupled channel calculakms is presented for He/LiF(OOl) diffractive scattering. The range of validity of the wavepacket method is examined in demil and alIenlion is paid LO the dependence of the rcsuhs on the width of the packets. At higher energies. where the wavepackc[ method will be almost exacl. a compatison is made with Ihe resuhs of classical lrajeclories. It is shown thal. aside from a correct incorporation of quantum effects. the wavepacker approach can have a considerable iomputationa! advanmgc over a pure classical calculalion.
