✦ Synopsis
Based on competitive reactions and 1 H NMR measurements, it was found that (EtO) 2 P(O)CH 2 I is at least 2-3 orders of magnitude less reactive than other non-phosphorus iodides of the EWG-CH 2 I type (EWG = NC, COOMe, 4-Br-C 6 H 4 CO).
MeSCH 2 I turned out to be totally unreactive in the title reaction.
