✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Using daily hemispheric synoptic charts for midwinter and midsummer months the distributions of pressure systems in the two hemispheres are compared. From mean pressure charts and charts of β€˜mean streamlines,’ meridional cross‐sections of mean zonal wind have been constructed for the western Pacific for the mid‐months of the four seasons. The main features of the circulation in the Australian region are discussed and comparisons are made between the circulations of the hemispheres.
