β¦ Synopsis
This paper describes and compares Eulerian (E) and Updated Lagrangian (UL) ΓΏnite element algorithms for simulating ΓΏlm casting. It is found that the E algorithm is more accurate, faster and simpler to implement for one-dimensional ΓΏlm casting of a viscous uid. However, the UL algorithm provides a natural and intuitive framework for accommodating viscoelasticity and for investigating the stability of the ΓΏlm.

The finite-difference and the finite-element methods are the two most commonly used numerical methods in reservoir simulation. A comparative study of the two methods in compositional and noncompositionai simulations is presented. The comparisons are based on grid orientation effect and computational
