## Summary The reactions of chromophoric model compounds of the coniferaldehyde type with hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid have been investigated in relation to lignin-retaining bleaching. Analysis of the main reaction products indicated that the side chain of coniferaldehyde could cleave eithe
