Abstract
Light scattering from electrically small nematic liquid crystal droplets is routinely studied by methods based on the Rayleigh–Gans (RG) approximation. The error introduced by the Rayleigh–Gans approximation is critically assessed for radial, bipolar, and aligned spherical droplets. Comparisons are made with respect to the prediction of the finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) method for the above droplet configurations. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract Two new categories of stationary phase have been studied: liquid crystals and polyesters. The liquid crystals were __p__,__p__′‐azoxyphenetol, __p__(__n__‐hexyloxy)phenyl‐__p__′‐methoxy benzoate, and __p__‐pentyloxy‐__p__′‐ethoxyazoxybenzene; and the polyester phases 1,4‐butanediol succ
H NMR spectra of la,2a,3e,4e,5e,6a-hexachlorocyclohexane (y-BHC) have been measured in a nematic solution of ZLI2081 at low temperatures to prevent exchange broadening. The spectra were analysed and direct couplings determined. The six-membered ring is most favourably oriented parallel to the solven
