✦ Synopsis

Available methods for the continuous preconcentration and subsequent atomic absorption spectrometric determination of cobalt in an automated flow-injection system are compared in terms of performance. Preconcentration of Co(III) by retention on ion-exchange resins is measured against liquid-liquid extraction, precipitation, and continuous thermospray volatilization following chelation. Reported uses of these on-line preconcentration systems for the determination of cobalt are critically discussed.
