Medium-resolution spectrophotometry of 19 Seyfert-I galaxies with MY between -20" and -24" is presented. Balmer line broad and narrow components are decomposed and relative narrow-line intensities are compared with a grid of power law photoionization models. Diagrams displaying ratios of strong forbidden lines are devised which allow to read power law indices a and ionization parameters U for individual objects. On the average, a-values derived from' [0 I]/[O 1111 versus [N II]/[O 1111 are in good agreement with power-law slope indices a,, derived from continuum measurements at 1450 A (U) and 0.7 keV (X). However, for the same parameters, the theoretical [S II]/[O 1111 values appear to be 40% too large. Based on trends in current photoionization models we suggest that this discrepancy might be removed by including a black-body component in the ionizing continuum and a high-density component in the narrow-line region. Mkn 1044 has been isolated as an unusual object whose strong [S 111 224068,4076 feature suggests that its NLR emission is dominated by a high-density zone with N , -lo7 ~m -~. Spektralphotometrische Messungen von 19 Seyfert-I-Galaxien im Bereich absoluter Helligkeiten von -20" bis -24" werden prasentiert. Die Balmerlinien werden in breite und schmale Komponenten zerlegt. Die gemessenen Intensitatsverhaltnisse der starksten schmalen Emissionslinien werden mit den theoretischen Werten der Photoionisationsmodelle verglichen. Der Kontinuumsindex a und der Ionisationsparameter U werden fur die einzelnen Objekte aus graphischen Darstellungen der Linienintensitatsverhaitnisse bestimmt. Im Mittel stimmen die aus dem [0 I]/[O 1111-[N II]/[O 1111-Diagramm abgeleiteten a-Werte gut mit dem Exponenten aux iiberein, der eine Exponentialgesetzanpassung an die bei 1450 8, (U) und 0.7 keV (X) gemessenen Kontinuumswerte reprasentiert. Mit den so ermittelten Parametern waren dann jedoch die theoretischen [S II]/[O 1111-Werte im Mittel um 40% groDer als die gemessenen. Zusammen rnit neueren Photoionisationsrechnungen legt diese Diskrepanz nahe, daO das ionisierende Kontinuum eine zusatzliche Komponente ahnlich der eines heiDen Schwarzen Korpers enthalt und die Entstehungsregion der schmalen Emissionslinien eine Komponente iiberdurchschnittlich hoher Dichte enthalt. Die Galaxie Mkn 1044 erweist sich als ungewohnliches Objekt, dessen starke [S 111 1A4068,4076-Emission darauf hindeutet, daD die Emission ihrer schmalen Linien durch eine Zone hoher Dichte mit N , -lo7 cm-3 dominiert wird.
