โฆ Synopsis
The chromosomes of thirty Japanese heteropterans were studied in male or female germ cells and embryo cells in acetic orcein squashes or air-dried slides stained with Giemsa. This work revealed the chromosome formuIa and the sex-mechanism of Rhopalidae for the first time. New data on the chromosomes of the Acanthosomatidae, Alydidae, Belostomatidae, Cydnidae, Plataspidae and Urostylidae are presented. and those from the Kagoshima Prefecture in August, 1975. The chromosomes were mostly studied in male and female germ cells with the acetic orcein squash method, but only in Lethocew deyroilei (Belostomatidae) were embryonic cells available and the airdry Giemsa method was used. Drawings were made with the aid of a camera lucida at a magnilication of approximately x 3,100 or x 2,500. Photomicrographs were taken on an Olympus PM-6.
