Using a case study, this paper takes the phenomenon of knowledge-based economies (Department of Trade and Industry, 1998) and the concept of knowledge as the basis of a dynamic theory of the firm (Spender, 1996), and integrates them to produce a view of strategy innovation. It does so by taking Nonaka's (1994) knowledge-based paradigm of organizations, in which the role of the manager involves more than just information processing and problem solving, and investigates in practice what this might entail in terms of knowledge management in a global, knowledge-driven industry.
