T he day-long seminar was divided into four ses- sions. It opened with ''Setting the Stage''-an overview of evidence-based medicine and the state of orthopaedic clinical research. Moderators for this session were Vernon T. Tolo, MD and Joseph A. Buckwalter, MD. In ''Lessons Learned,'' investigators presented clinical trials from several orthopaedic specialties. The ''Methodological Issues in Clinical Trials'' included concealment, blinding, sample size, and other elements that can affect outcomes.
