✦ Synopsis

A quantitative calorimetric study on the thermal desorption of naphthalene from C,S and activated carbon has been performed in a Calve&type twin calorimeter. The heat of desorption of naphthaiene was measured to be 3 1.1 kcal/mole for Filtrasorb 300 (activate carbon) and 2 1 .g kcalimole for a C,S sample according to the following equation: Adsorbent-Naphthalene (24°C) = Adsorbent (24°C) + Naphthalene (377°C). By studying the desorption of adsorbed water from the adsorbents, the binding energy between water and the adsorbent was measured to be lg.7 kcalimole for Filtrasorb 300 and 4.6 kcal~mole for C,S according to the following equation: Adsorbent-H20(24"C) = Adsorbent (24"C)+ H20 (24°C). Based on the results of the present study and previous adsorption measurements, it is concluded that the modification of the carbon surface with sulfur groups decreases the binding energy between the adsorbate and the adsorbent very significantly.

## Abstract Migration of bisphenol‐A (BPA), the principal monomer of polycarbonate (PC) baby bottles, was investigated using an aqueous migration simulant. BPA was determined in 200 mL water samples using stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) after __in situ__ derivatization with acetic acid anhydrid
