Currently the process used by designers to specify the features of structural adhesive joints consists of writing explanatory notes on the assembly plans. Thus, there is no graphic standard for these joints that allows us synthesise the technical information on the plans, in contrast to what happens

β¦ Synopsis
Adhesives have rapidly become a common method of joining engineering components, particularly when the components are made from polymeric materials. Their use though still tends to be troublesome because designers in general possess a limited understanding of the technology. This not only produces poorly designed joints through misapplication of the technology but in a lot of cases, a complete avoidance of adhesives as a possible joining method. This short article summarises the essential information necessary for preliminary adhesive joint design.
