Nanotechnology, like any new technology, may pose risks for health and the environment as well as offering many benefits. Such risks must be assessed and appropriate measures taken where necessary. Safety concerns about nanotechnology -both real and perceived -need to be identified and addressed at the earliest stage. The accepted current view is that many unanswered questions remain.
