Abstract

The integration of a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) and a photodiode with two microstrip antennas results in low‐cost wireless‐optical transmitter and receiver modules and the initial microwave‐link results are shown. The VCSEL antenna is used as part of a fully bidirectional wireless‐optical link and data are successfully transferred between two wireless‐enabled laptops. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
