✦ Synopsis
Efficient generation of multi-kilohertz repetition rate tunable 308 nm radiation by second harmonic conversion of CVLpumped dye laser output is reported. Efficient SHG has been demonstrated in three different nonlinear crystals: LBO, BBO and lithium iodate. Dye laser conversion efficiencies in excess of 20% and SHG conversion efficiencies approaching 40% have been achieved. Average UV powers at 308 nm approaching 1 W have been realized with UV bandwidths less than 2 GHz. The output of such a frequency-doubled CVL-pumped dye laser has been successfully used to investigate the molecular spectra of OH radicals in the 308 nm region.
