✦ Synopsis

In this paper, a modtfted Knudsen effusion method was used to determine the vapou-r pressures of primary coal tars. The vapour pressure data were correlated with the molecular weight and temperature for tars from three Argonne coal samples (Pittsburgh No. 8, Upper Free-port and Wyodak) of similar molecular weight. These results show significant differences in the vapour pressures from the tars of the different coals. The results highlight that the commonly used for vapour pressures of the coal tars oversimplified the actual behaviour.

However, the estimation techniques can provide reasonable estimates for some modelling applications.
