✦ Synopsis
Presented is a least cost principle for the design of a horizontal pipeline carrying powder filled capsules including the determination of optimum pipeline diameter and spacing between successive pumping units. Detailed analyses were made with regard to the transport of coal, fly ash and iron ore slimes in spherical capsules for a throughput of 0.01-l m3/s. Hydraulic parameters such as friction factor and capsule velocity with throughput and Reynolds number were also studied.
