GBL-Kolloquiums, 1997), 104-110. (In German) The effects of flooding the former open-pit brown coal mines in central and eastern Germany were studied and the results are presented in this paper. A characterization of the geochemical processes when the sediments come into contact with the flood water under aerobic and anaerobic conditions is given. Additionally the maximum acidification potential is discussed.
