New materials in steam boiler construction Scheffknecht, G. and Kather, A. Brennst.-Waerme-Krafl, 1997,49, (11/12), 62-67. (In German) The use of new steels in conventional coal-fired steam power stations in order to increase the steam conditions with the consequent reduction of CO2 emissions and the fuel consumption, is reviewed. With the new materials, the steam parameters could be increased to ~300 bar and >6Oo"C. With a corresponding thermodynamic optimization, this lead to net efficiencies of >47%.
