✦ Synopsis
The 1995 'German federal mining regulations' converted the EU directive 118a 'Labour protection' (89/391/EEC) into national law. Further EU directives, the machine directive (89/392/EEC) and the explosion protection directive 94/9/EC for equipment and protective systems for use for the intended purpose in areas with an explosion hazard (ATEX lOOa), were likewise implemented into German law in 1996 in orders concerning the equipment safety act. Two A standards are currently being drawn up for collieries and for the rest of industry in ATEX 100a. The standard EN 1127-3 'explosive atmospheres-explosion protection in collieries' should serve as a basic guide for prevention of explosions and protection against their effects. The technical regulation for constructional explosion protection is to be specified in European harmonized carbon standards.
