โœฆ Synopsis

In both the coal and utility industries the handling of fine coal is an important issue. Reconstitution of fine coal in the form of pellets or briquettes would be desirable if it could be done economically, and this paper evaluates the effectiveness of the three binders asphalt emulsion, corn starch and Brewex in forming pellets of ultrafine clean coal. It was found that asphalt emulsion and corn starch were ineffective binders, but Brewex (brewer's condensed solubles) was used to form coal pellets that exceeded all of the minimum quality requirements.
