The synthesis gas is treated in the presence of water vapour at elevated temperature and pressure with a composite metal oxide-containing catalyst comprising MO oxide, TiOz, and AlaOs, and in substantial absence of Group VIII elements or compounds.
The resulting synthesis gas is then washed.
