✦ Synopsis

Datong coal has high flotability and Illinois coal has low flotability. They were used to study flotability with respect to evaluation of the critical wetting surface tension (yc) of each coal particle. When the flotability of coal particles having the same yc value was compared between Datong and Illinois coal, Datong coal notability was greater than that of Illinois coal. It was suggested that the heterogeneous distribution of hydrophobic strength on a surface of each coal particle should be taken into account to understand the attachment of a bubble to a coal particle.
