Effect of platinum wire structure on catalytic gasphase ignition of methane Cohn, J. G. Feel, 1997. 76, (S), 407-413. The problem of inhibition caused by pre-oxidatton reactions on catalytic surfaces is overcome in a recently-developed catalytic igniter for methane. The design of the igniter mimics the dual activity principle of two-phase igniters for certain types of fuel. However, in contrast, this function is achieved within a single phase by utilizing specific structures of filaments of fine platinum wires. These igniters are capable of delivering thousands of ignitions.
