Presents the energy consumption values of the countries of the Commonwealth of Indeoendant States (CIS). Correlated with the moss domestic products, these'values permit us to calculate the energy intensity values of these countries. Structural effects and a very low efficiency of the energy systems, especially in energy use, add up to very high energy intensity values compared to those of the Western industrialised countries. Whether for exporting or importing CIS countries, the cost of the energy system and its consequences on the environment are a major constraint for economic recovery and sustainable development.
