โฆ Synopsis
dioxide and water vapor were determined in flowing helium at a total pressure of 1 atm. The rates were obtained from continuously recorded weight changes and from intermittent analyses of the effluent gases. The effect of temperature, flow rate, partial pressure of oxidant, and burnoff were examined. The temperature coefficients of the CO,-and HsO-graphite systems were measured in the temperature range of 775-925ยฐC using CO, concentrations of 550 and 1100 vpm (parts per million by volume) and Hz0 concentrations of 110 and 460 vpm. The apparent order of the two systems was studied at 875ยฐC in the concentration ranges of 50 to 1000 vpm of CO, and 30 to 760 vpm of H,O. Strong and about equal retardation of the HzO-graphite reaction was noted upon the addition of either H, or CO. The CO,-graphite reaction also was found to be strongly retarded by either CO or Hz. A comparison of the results obtained for ATJ graphite with those obtained for a purer grade of graphite will be given.
