✦ Synopsis
The authors have investigated the possibility of developing cvcn lighter connecting rods while maintaining good productivity. As a result. a new lightweight connecting rod has been developed that is made of a low-carbon martensite steel. Because this material does not require tempering, buckling strength is improved, and shot peening is used to improve the fatigue limit. Lightweight connecting rods developed for Nissan's new VQ engine contribute to the improved performance of this V6 powerplant. This paper describes the development process for the new material and shot peening technique
