✦ Synopsis


The title compound, C 22 H 15 N 3 , was synthesized by the reaction of 4,5-diphenyl-2-(2-nitrophenyl)imidazole with triethyl orthoformate, induced by a low-valent titanium reagent (TiCl 4 /Zn). There are two independent molecules of similar conformation in the asymmetric unit. X-ray analysis reveals that the imidazole ring and pyrimidine ring are essentially coplanar.

The title compound, C 24 H 21 N 3 , was synthesized by the reaction of 4,5-diphenyl-2-(2-nitrophenyl)imidazole with acetone, induced by a low-valent titanium reagent (TiCl 4 / Zn). The dihydropyrimidine ring shows a skew-boat conformation.
