Recent measurements of the magnetoreflection and of the de Haas-van Alphen effect have made possible a more accurate determination of the band parameters of pyrolytic graphite. In principle, these experiments could provide a more direct measurement of the small spin-orbit interaction in graphite. Th

โฆ Synopsis
The results of the magneto-reflection experiments in pyrolytic graphite carried out at low temperatures in the photon energy range 0.06<hw/2x<0.50 eV and in the magnetic field range O<H<llO kG have been interpreted in terms of the Slonczewski-Weiss band model. Interband transitions associated with point H in the Brillouin zone yield the parameters y. and IAl, while the other set of interband transitions (about point K) yields values for yr, 73, and y4. The de Haas-van Alphen measurements provide the additional information required to complete the band parameter determination. Using the band parameters obtained by this method, a model of the Fermi surface of graphite has been constructed.
