In the title compound, C~17~H~12~N~2~O~4~, the quinoline ring system is essentially planar. The ester group is twisted away from the quinoline ring system and nitrobenzene ring by 84.83β (3) and 80.56β (4)Β°, respectively. The crystal packing is stabilized by CβH...O intermolecular hydrogen bonds, and

β¦ Synopsis
In the title crystal structure, C 11 H 11 NO, there are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. In one of the molecules, the dihedral angle between the two six-membered rings of the quinoline system is 1.43 ( 9) and in the other molecule the angle is 0.74 (1) . In both molecules, the methoxy group in essentially coplanar with the quinoline group, with C-O-C-C torsion angles of 3.3 (3) and 3.1 (3) .
