of the PG's have been characterized by microstructure, crystallite size and degree of graphitization, mean tilt angle, and orientation dependence of crystallite size and perfection. Metallic diffusion is shown to occur in the less ordered regions around the surfaces and edges of crystallites and the concentration profiles follow volume diffusion kinetics. When the layer planes are viewed with autoradiographs, the diffusing species is concentrated at the cone boundaries where the cry&Bites are smaller, more numerous, less graphitized and have larger mean tilt angle.
