This volume is a collection of papers presented at the 22nd annual conference of the Engineering Group of the Geological Society, a multidisciplinary conference convened at Plymouth Polytechnic, Plymouth, England, in September 1986 tO develop a dialogue between geologists/engineers and land-use planners.
The Proceedings include papers from 12 of the 13 sessions. (No papers came out of Session 9 because it was a workshop.) Discussions followed each session except for the Introduction Sessions 1 (Planning and Engineering Geology) and 13 (Engineering Geology and the Legal Aspects of Planning), and are included in the volume. Other sessions included: Opportunities for Development and Constraints on Development; Data Acquisition; Land Evaluation and Site Assessment (Mapping, Hazard and Risk); Development of Resources; The Infrastructure, Its Development and Redevelopment; Waste Disposal and Pollution Control; Conservation, Restoration and Protection of Land; Planning and Engineering Geology, Opportunities and Responsibilities; and Environmental Impact and Strategic Planning. The Proceedings present a total of 70 papers, including those by such experts in their fields as R.F.
