The mixing rate of the specfal stirrer device warn studied on various scalem with different stirrer diameters and stirrer speeds, scaling-up procedures were developed. A digital simulation model was met up to study the effects of the stirring parameters On the mixing rate. To study polyzerization, the mixing model warn combined with a kinetic model of the pol~erization reaction. This paper describes the effect of mixing on the frequency distribution of monomers in copolymerimation products KEYWORDS Mixing, polymerization reactor, digital simulation; flowsheet sfmulation program, helical ribbon impeller, propeller stirrer. INTRCDUCTION Mixing and agitation are important chemical engineering operationm and in a continuous homogeneous polymerization system constitute a special problem. Proper mixing can prevent fouling and excessive localized reactions resulting in fo=ation of undesirable products and deactivation of the catalyst.
