✦ Synopsis

Ahstrac-A

new monomer, S-indanyl acrylate (IdA), has been synthesized from the precursor viz., Sindanol, and characterized by FT-IR, 'H-NMR and "C-NMR spectroscopies. Homo-and copolymetization of IdA with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) have been carried out in benzene by free radical polymerization at 70Β°C utilizing 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN). Poly(IdA) and MAGMA copolymers were characterized by 'H-NMR and "C-NMR, and the copolymer compositions were evaluated by 'H-NMR spectroscopy. The reactivity ratios were estimated using Fineman-Ross, Kelen-Tudos and extended Kelen-Tudos methods. The Q and e values for IdA have been determined adopting the Alfrey-Price scheme. By TGA and DSC analyses, the thermal properties of the polymers have been studied.

## Abstract A phthalimido group containing methacrylate based monomer 2‐(__N__‐phthalimido)ethyl methacrylate (NPEMA) was synthesized by reacting 2‐(__N__‐phthalimido)ethanol (NPE) with methacryloyl chloride. NPE was prepared by reacting phthalic anhydride dissolved in dimethyl formamide (DMF) with
