✦ Synopsis

Alkyl-5-alkyl(or aryl)imino-l,2,3,4-thiatriazolines react as masked l,3-dipoles1 with isocyanates to yield the title compounds (1 .+ 2 ) . 2 ' 3 An interesting aspect of these compounds is that they also possess a thioimidate function capable of reacting as a masked 1,3-dipole with electrophilic unsaturated systems. W e have checked this possibility by reacting 3 with isothiocyanates. bis(ethoxycarbony1)ketene and electrophilic nitriles; the results are shown in the Scheme.
