โฆ Synopsis
The 4th Joint Meeting of the Forensic Science Society and the California Association of Criminalists was opened by Angela Gallop, the President of the Forensic Science Society, who welcomed everyone to the meeting, especially those from the USA, and she invited the President of the California Association of Criminalists, Michael Parigian to speak on behalf of them. Michael presented the Forensic Science Society with a crystal bowl, engraved to celebrate the meeting.
Richard Brumstrom, Chief Constable of North Wales Police, opened the meeting, informing an attentive audience that forensic science was becoming a very important tool in roads policing and the investigation of accidents -mainly in the two areas of impairment and collision investigation. Modern Road Policing is a manifesto for the future, in promoting road safetyand Mr Brumstrom informed us that the UK actually has the safest roads in the world -the death rate from accidents in the USA is twice that of the UK.
Government lead targets are now aimed at reducing the number of road deaths -in Sweden the target is to reduce the number to zero in the next 20 years. The target for the UK is to reduce the amount by 40% by 2010.
