✦ Synopsis

The structure of the title compound, C~11~H~9~Cl~3~O~4~, shows two crystallographically independent but geometrically essentially identical molecules per asymmetric unit. The methoxy groups lie in the plane of the aromatic system, the relevant C—O—C—C and C—O—C—C torsion angles being −173.7 (2) and 3.1 (3)°, and 174.7 (1) and 3.2 (3)° for the two molecules. Molecules are packed in sheets parallel to the (100) plane, with various intermolecular C—H...O and C—H...Cl contacts.
