✦ Synopsis

The 4,4',6,6'-tetrasubstituted 2,2'-alkylidene-bisphenols 1 reacted with sulfur monochloride to give 4, IOa-(epi-dithi0)-4,4a,lO, 1Oa-tetrahydro-lH-5-oxaanthracen-I-ones (3 and 4). The structures of the products were elucidated by a combination of X-ray crystal-structure analysis and 'Hand "C-NMR spectroscopy.
