โœฆ Synopsis

Neutron diffraction studies show that in the monolayer of 3He on graphite the commensurate phase is separated from the incommensurate phase by a domain wall phase. Under the pressure of the second adsorbed layer the fit layer is driven into an 8*8 commensurability with the substrate. This coincides probably with events seen in NMR (1) and heat capacity measurements (2) in the same coverage region.

Precise heat capacity data have been obtained for multilayers of 3He adsorbed on graphite in the temperature range between 2 and 200 mK. Calorimetric measurements on 3 He-4 He monolayers by Hickernell, McLean, and Vilches indicate that isotopic ordering takes place in both the low-denszty and registered lattice gas regimes. The low-density film heat capacity corresponds to imperfect 2D gas mixtures above T "-1 K. At lower temperature
