In the crystal structure of the title compound, C~15~H~12~Cl~2~O~2~, the chloro-substituted benzene rings are not parallel; the other rings are nearly parallel and the molecules stack in layers parallel to these rings. There are two molecules in the asymmetric unit.

The two benzene rings of the title compound, C 18 H 20 O 5 , are almost parallel, with a dihedral angle of 1.3 (2) . The hydroxy group forms intermolecular O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds which link the molecules into infinite chains along the c axis.

In the title compound, C 18 H 18 O 4 , the dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 9.07 (7) . Intermolecular C-HÁ Á ÁO interactions form chains along the c axis. The crystal structure is further stabilized by C-HÁ Á Á interactions.
