✦ Synopsis
The title compound, C 25 H 23 N 3 O 4 S, was synthesized by tosylation of 3-(2,2 0 ;6 0 ,2 00 -terpyridin-4 0 -yloxy)propan-1-ol. The dihedral angles formed by the substituent pyridine rings with the central ring are 4.27 (4) and 17.27 (5) . The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular C-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen-bond interactions, with no stacking interaction between the aromatic rings.

The cation, anion and water molecules of the title compound, C 7 H 11 N 2 O 3 S + ÁCl À Á2H 2 O are linked by hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. The cation and anion lie on mirror planes, and both are disordered.
In the crystal structure of the title compound, C~12~H~14~N~3~ ^+^·C~7~H~7~O~3~S^−^, cations and anions are linked by intermolecular N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions, forming channels running along the __b__ axis.
In the title molecule, C~22~H~17~N~3~O, the three pyridyl rings are almost coplanar. The molecule exhibits a __trans__–__trans__ arrangement of the pyridine rings about the interannular C—C bonds. The methoxyphenyl substituent makes a dihedral angle of 6.17 (7)° with the central pyridine ring.
The complex [Pt(Cl 3 terpy)Cl]PF 6 has been prepared from cis-[Pt(dimethylsulfoxide) 2 Cl 2 ] and 4,4%,4¦-trichloro-2,2%:6%,2¦-terpyridine (Cl 3 terpy). The complex [Pt(Clterpy)Cl]Cl has been prepared from cis-[Pt (1,5-cyclooctadiene)Cl 2 ] and 4%-chloro-2,2%:6%,2¦terpyridine (Clterpy). Complexes ha
