✦ Synopsis

The title compound, C 38 H 34 Fe 2 O 2 S 2 , is a novel disul®de. The SÐS bond distance is 2.0189 (11) A Ê . There are two chiral C atoms in the molecule, with relative stereochemistry RS and SR. Pairs of molecules form centrosymmetric dimers through weak CÐHÁ Á ÁS interactions which are, in turn, linked into two-dimensional layers by further weak CÐHÁ Á ÁS interactions.

From a hexane solution, the title compound, C 14 H 21 IO 2 S, crystallizes in the centrosymmetric space group Pbca with one molecule in the asymmetric unit. As a result of the bulky substituent, small deviations from ideal bond angles are found for the aliphatic part of the molecule.
