β¦ Synopsis
The magnetic field has been calculated in the space above and below a stack of N superconducting layers when this field is generated by a single 2D pancake vortex in an arbitrary layer. At sufficiently large distances above the stack, the magnetic field is equivalent to that generated by a monopole of strength less than one flux quantum Β’0 = hc/2e, the strength of the monopole depending upon the distance of the pancake vortex from the top surface. If there is one 2D pancake vortex in ~ach superconducting layer, however, the resulting magnetic field above the stack is the same as that generated by a monopole of strength exactly equal to one flux quantum.
