✦ Synopsis
In the crystal structure of the title compound, C 18 H 10 N 2 S 3 , the terminal thiophene rings are disordered. This disorder is of a flip-type and has been observed in some other thiophene derivatives. The molecule as a whole is approximately planar; the dihedral angle between the terminal five-membered rings is 6.0 (2) . The crystal packing is determined by van der Waals interactions,stair-like stacking between the thiophene rings, and some weak C-HÁ Á ÁS and C-HÁ Á Á short directional contacts.

The title compound, C 19 H 12 OS, can be synthesized in good yield (60%) utilizing Vilsmeyer-Haack formylation of 2-(9Hfluoren-9-ylidenemethyl)thiophene. The thiophene ring contains one short C-S bond [1.618 (2) A ˚].
The bond lengths and angles in the title compound, C 40 H 24 N 4 O 2 S, are normal. The dihedral angles between the dibenzothiophene-S,S-dioxide and two quinoxaline groups are 34.88 (1) and 45.86 (1) .
