✦ Synopsis

The title compound, C 8 H 2 Cl 4 O 4 , was synthesized by the reaction of 2,3,5,6-tetrachlorobenzene-1,4-dicarbonitrile and sulfuric acid. The molecule is located across an inversion center. The carboxyl group is tilted with respect to the benzene ring by an angle of 72.42 (7) . Intermolecular O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonding helps to stabilize the crystal structure.
