β¦ Synopsis
The work-of-fracture (ywOF) of carbon-carbon composites was measured for composites with 3-D woven fiber preforms, carbon felts, and chopped fibers. Maximum values were observed for the 3-D preforms and minimum values for the carbon felts. The values are also compared with similar data for graphites and glassy carbon.

## Abstract A series of graphitized carbon materials, produced by the pyrolysis of an anthraceneβbased coke at temperatures ranging from 1600 to 2900 Β°C, were studied by Raman microspectroscopy to assess the applicability of this technique to the particular case of polished carbon materials. The po
## A~~~-Various types of pyrolytic carbons obtained by acetylene pyrolysis at 1273 K were heat treated for 0.5 hr at 1623, 1973,2323,2673 and 3273 K. These carbons showed distinctly different ~aphit~biiity, decreasing in the order: compact, feathery, brittle, spongy and soot-like carbon. On the gr
## Abstract Questions have been raised about the use of mercury intrusion porosimetry to measure interconnecting pore sizes and void volumes in relatively soft and flexible materials such as porous implant composites of PTFE and carbon fibers. We have studied the effect of precompression of one suc
