✦ Synopsis

The title compound, C 29 H 28 O 2 , was obtained unintentionally as the product of an attempted synthesis of a new chiral cobalt salen catalyst [H 2 salen is bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine]. The asymmetric unit is one half-molecule; a crystallographic twofold rotation axis passes through the central C atom. In the crystal structure, intermolecular C-HÁ Á Á interactions are found.
