205Tl Knight and chemical shift in the high-Tc superconductors Tl2Ba2CuO6, Tl2CaBa2Cu2O8 and Tl2Ca2Ba2Cu3O10

✦ Synopsis

We report on the 2°5T1 NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectra of the title compounds below and above the superconducting transition temperature T¢. The TIO layer NMR spectra are dominated by chemical shifts corresponding to TI 3+ with a smaller additional positive Knight shift, whereas a "defect line" ofT1 replacing Ca in the two and three layer compounds exhibits a large negative Knight shift, which is attributed to O-holes in the CuO2 layers.
